THE OPPORTUNITY
The Bronx Community Justice Center, one of the Center's newest projects and works to create a safer, more equitable Bronx through community-driven safety initiatives, violence prevention, youth opportunity, and economic development efforts.&nbsp;Save Our Streets South Bronx&nbsp;is a replication of the Chicago Project for Violence Prevention’s evidence-based Cure Violence program, a cutting-edge gun violence prevention model that aims to reduce and prevent shootings through the use of public health strategies.&nbsp;
Bronx Community Justice Center&nbsp;is seeking a Hospital&nbsp;Responder. Reporting to the Hospital Responder Coordinator, the Hospital Responder will provide supportive services to crime victims and their family members.&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;Responders are notified when a victim of a gunshot wound, stabbing or other assault-related injury is taken to Lincoln&nbsp;Hospital.&nbsp;A&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;Responder&nbsp;is expected to report immediately to the&nbsp;hospital&nbsp;where they&nbsp;will stay with the victim and actively work to de-escalate traumatized and angry family members and friends who may be planning retaliatory violence. The Hospital&nbsp;Responder&nbsp;will help the victim and their family at the&nbsp;hospital&nbsp;cope with their shock and their grief, while working with the greater S.O.S. teams to identify and intervene with others in the neighborhood most likely to instigate retaliation. The overall goal is to keep the peace and prevent further shootings and deaths.
Responsibilities&nbsp;include&nbsp;but are not limited to:

<li>Report to Lincoln&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;to meet with crime victims and their friends and family members;</li>
<li>Educate the victim and family members about trauma and typical responses to trauma and chronic stress;</li>
<li>Work closely with staff from S.O.S. South Bronx and Morrisania, other Bronx Cure Violence partners, Guns Down Life Up and Lincoln&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;to reduce the possibility of retaliatory violence and the return of the victim to the&nbsp;hospital;</li>
<li>Encourage victims to involve themselves in stopping the cycle of violence;</li>
<li>Schedule and conduct home visits upon the release of the victim from the&nbsp;hospital, as needed;</li>
<li>Provide feedback to&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;Responder&nbsp;Coordinator and Associate Director of Programs on the&nbsp;hospital&nbsp;protocol;</li>
<li>Make&nbsp;recommendations for improving the quality and success of the program;</li>
<li>Work scheduled shifts in the Emergency Department and/or responding in an “on-call” manner, as necessary;</li>
<li>Ensure that the data regarding&nbsp;hospital&nbsp;calls and responses is kept up to date and&nbsp;notify leadership if there are significant trends;</li>
<li>Work with the Hospital&nbsp;Responder&nbsp;Coordinator to ensure that there is back-up coverage at times the&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;Responder&nbsp;is unavailable;</li>
<li>Complete a daily log including hospital&nbsp;activations, interruptions, de-escalations, case notes and referrals;</li>
<li>Identify individuals who are high risk in order to connect them with Cure Violence programs, helping&nbsp;them rethink the impulse to act violently and redirect their lives in more positive directions;</li>
<li>Provide clients with support and linkages to programs within their zip code and opportunities in the community (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring);</li>
<li>Conduct outreach to the Lincoln&nbsp;Hospital&nbsp;Community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with other stakeholders, youth, residents, businesses, and&nbsp;hospital&nbsp;staff;</li>
<li>Participate in responses to shootings that take place in the target area of Save Our Streets Bronx;</li>

Position Overview:
The Sisulu-Walker Charter School of Harlem General Education Teacher understands and promotes the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The General Education Teacher is responsible for providing a classroom/instructional program that supports the individual needs of all children in accordance with the school’s mission and values established by the school.
Responsibilities and Duties (including, but not limited to):
Instructional Planning

Academic and Certification Qualifications:

SUMMARY:
