JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: SHIFT SUPERVISOR 
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
DEPARTMENT: HOUSING AND SERVICES - SECURITY
REPORTS TO: SECURITY MANAGER
LOCATION: QUEENS, NY
 
SUMMARY: The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising, performing, and reporting work involving a variety of specialized assignments and security systems in our homeless shelter. Operations within our facility are 24 hours. This position requires face-to-face relief with mandatory overtime and requires proof of COVID-19 vaccinations. 
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Train new security officers /residential aide employees in all aspects of the facility. </li>
<li>Supervise security staff during your assigned shift, assigning breaks, post assignments, and duties.</li>
<li>Monitor access control and ensure effective use of the magnetometer and x-ray machine. </li>
<li>Respond to incidents and utilize crisis management to protect the safety of the staff and clients </li>
<li>Make rounds throughout the facility and external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities. </li>
<li>Respond to emergencies in person throughout the building, and provide guidance and support to line staff and subordinates. </li>
<li>Conduct daily security and fire safety system inspections </li>
<li> Fulfill all job responsibilities of a Safety Security Officer in their absence. </li>
<li>Maintain the safety and security of clients and staff. </li>
<li>Provide crisis intervention when needed. </li>
<li>Assist the Security Manager in preparing and executing fire drills. </li>
<li>Oversee AWOL family property pack up </li>
<li>Monitor logging of client property to ensure accuracy </li>
<li>Ensure that all managers are kept aware of critical incidents on assigned shifts </li>
<li>Review log book entries, incident reports, and critical administrative responsibilities on assigned shift, checking for errors and ensuring accuracy </li>
<li>Attend various meetings and trainings as needed. </li>
<li>Check the inventory of all assigned equipment daily, and investigate any discrepancies. </li>
<li>Mandatory Overtime Required</li>
<li>Perform all related duties as assigned. </li>
</ul>
 
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Proof of education is required: High School Diploma/GED. 1-2 years of Supervisor experience required. A valid N.Y.S Security Guard License, Fire Guard License F80 Required, and certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI). Must possess a general knowledge of security systems. Ability to solve problems and make decisions based on factual information is a must. Knowledge of video surveillance and fire detection/alarm notification systems is a must. Must be flexible on days and hours of availability. Must have shelter knowledge and be familiar with CARES and DHS shelter protocols
