RESPONSIBILITIES
The Certified Personal Trainer will be responsible for providing one-on-one and couples personalized fitness instruction in person to clients at their home, apartment gym or outside while encouraging them to reach their fitness goals. Responsibilities are as follows:

ABOUT THE JOB
As a member of our aquatics team, you'll be teaching campers to swim and work with the rest of the team to guard our three swimming pools. Each day more more than 1300 campers have the opportunity to swim for two periods. 
A typical day will have you lifeguarding 4-5 swim periods and teaching instrucional swim to 4-5 groups according to the American Red Cross curriculum. As a member of the aquatics staff you will be expected to ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures at all times while on the pool deck, help prevent and manage injuries, provide rescues as needed and participate in the daily set-up and close down of the pools.
HKC will provide the curriculum and train you in how to teach swim and provide ongoing training throughout the summer.

The Opportunity
In collaboration with the Independent Drivers Guild (IDG) and Workers Benefit Fund (WBF), we are launching an inaugural program this year in New York City, specifically for independent drivers, such as those affiliated with Uber and Lyft. We're looking for a Health Coach who is passionate about advancing health equity and excited by the opportunity to build a new kind of care model from the ground up. You'll not only support patients directly—you'll help design and evolve how we deliver care. 
This is not a typical coaching role. You will be a key contributor to a collaborative, multidisciplinary care team, delivering mobile and virtual care to communities who've long been left out of traditional healthcare systems. You'll bring your voice and lived experience into workflow design, patient engagement strategies, and program materials. Your insights will directly shape how we build a model of care that is human-centered, scalable, and grounded in trust. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment and is energized by co-creating solutions that make care more accessible and compassionate. 
What You'll Do
Patient Engagement &amp; Coaching 
<ul>
<li>Build trusting, sustained relationships with patients through in-person and virtual interactions </li>
<li>Coach patients on setting and achieving personal health goals—such as managing stress, improving diet, increasing activity, or following care plans </li>
<li>Use motivational interviewing and trauma-informed techniques to support sustainable behavior change </li>
<li>Help patients overcome barriers to care and navigate social services in partnership with social workers and care navigators </li>
<li>Offer culturally relevant, accessible education on lifestyle, prevention, and chronic condition management </li>
</ul>
Program Building &amp; Innovation 
<ul>
<li>Help co-create the care delivery model, patient journey, and coaching framework alongside your team </li>
<li>Pilot new approaches to outreach, coaching, and education—and give real-time feedback to improve workflows </li>
<li>Participate in developing patient-facing materials, community outreach strategies, and new engagement tools </li>
<li>Surface insights from the field to ensure the care model remains responsive, inclusive, and impactful </li>
</ul>
Whole-Person Care &amp; Team-Based Collaboration 
<ul>
<li>Collaborate closely with providers, registered dietitians, social workers, and health navigators to ensure care is coordinated and person-centered </li>
<li>Participate in regular huddles, case reviews, and learning sessions focused on improving patient outcomes and team functioning </li>
<li>Assist in refining coaching workflows and documentation practices within the EHR </li>
<li>Offer perspective on how to better reach, serve, and empower gig workers, based on your day-to-day experience </li>
</ul>
Outreach &amp; Community Engagement 
<ul>
<li>Travel across NYC's five boroughs as part of our mobile care team to meet patients in the communities where they live and work </li>
<li>Support community-based events and activations designed to engage, educate, and enroll new patients </li>
<li>Serve as a trusted, visible representative of Akido's mission in the field </li>
</ul>
Who you are
Required Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's degree in public health, health education, nutrition, psychology, social work, or a related field — OR equivalent experience in health coaching, peer support, or community health work </li>
<li>Completion of a health coach training or certification program (e.g., NBC-HWC, IIN, Duke, etc.) preferred </li>
<li>Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport across cultures, languages, and lived experiences </li>
<li>Experience working with underserved or marginalized populations </li>
<li>Proficiency in motivational interviewing or other coaching modalities </li>
<li>Familiarity with EHR platforms, digital health tools, and remote care delivery </li>
<li>Fluent in conversational and medical Spanish </li>
</ul>
Preferred Qualifications 
<ul>
<li>1+ years of experience in health coaching, patient navigation, or similar direct service roles </li>
<li>Background in chronic disease prevention or management, behavioral health, or nutrition </li>
<li>Experience in a start-up or community health setting </li>
<li>Deep familiarity with New York City neighborhoods and community resources </li>
<li>Lived experience that reflects the communities we serve </li>
</ul>
Work Environment
This is a mobile and field-based role with frequent travel throughout all five boroughs of NYC. You'll work in a variety of settings including mobile clinics, community organizations, and virtual platforms. Flexibility is key, as the role may involve nontraditional hours including early mornings, evenings, or weekends to best serve our patient population. 
Compensation
$35-40 per hour

Do you enjoy being a part of a team that delivers service and support to some of the city's most vulnerable? Join our RTC social service department at St. John's Residence. St. John's is seeking a full-time, permanent Recreation Coordinator for our RTC residential program.
Full-time, permanent 40-hour per week position with some evening/weekends as needed.
*A Valid NYS Drivers License is required for this role.
Education Requirements: Minimum HS Diploma/ equivalent required; Some knowledge of child welfare, preferably congregate care and activities coordination is a plus.
Job Summary: The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for daily/weekly youth engagement and activities for assigned youth. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of community affairs/ events appropriate for youth. Must have an ability to multi-task, plan and execute community events as well as onsite activities. Provides a broad and creative array of organized, recreational activity on and off-grounds for the youth (typically) during afternoon and evening time slots (i.e., non-school hours). Activities include sports (basketball/softball/flag football/volleyball and the like), tournaments, special events, parlor games, clubs and field trips. Measure of success is how many youths productively engage in the activities provided.
