OBJECTIVE:
Lantern Community Services is seeking responsible Residential Aides for all shifts at a new, 113-bed, Men's Shelter in Ozone Park, Queens. The Residential Aides will provide direct services to the shelter clients and be the primary connection between the Case Management/Housing staff and the clients. Some of the Residential Aide's work tasks will be serving meals, monitoring for safety, documenting and orienting new intakes, assisting with group activities and events, escorting to appointments, and ensuring compliance with shelter rules and regulations. Successful candidates will have prior experience providing compassionate care to vulnerable populations.
This is a full-time shift position and will include some weekend hours. Shift times will be designated as Days (7:00 am to 3:00 pm), Evenings (3:00 pm -11:00 pm), and Overnight (11:00 pm to 7:00 am). Lantern staff may be asked to adjust their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Resident Care Assistants/Home Health Aides with a skillset and a heart for helping residents make the most of each day. In this position, you’ll be a friendly and familiar face to our residents, providing hands-on care in a respectful and dignified manner. Your role is essential to the care and safety of residents who choose to call The Bristal home. The loving care you bring to the services you provide is fundamental to the quality of life and the general wellbeing of our residents every day.
Additional responsibilities include:
<ul>
<li>Assisting residents manage Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)</li>
<li>Escorting residents to meals and recreational activities</li>
<li>Supporting residents in achieving their highest level of physical, emotional and psycho-social well-being</li>
<li>Helping out as needed in the Wellness area to ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of our residents</li>
<li>Following all policies and procedures, and adhering to the instructions of the Nurse Shift Supervisor and the Director of Wellness</li>
</ul>
Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>NY-Certified Nursing Assistant, Personal Care Attendant or Home Health Aide</li>
<li>Experience assisting those with Alzheimer's disease and dementia is a plus</li>
<li>Must be able to speak and read in English</li>
<li>Previous experience with geriatric population preferred, providing assistance with ADLs</li>
<li>Ability to follow instructions and establish personal care routines</li>
<li>Basic understanding of dementia; patience and professionalism in redirecting residents</li>
<li>Ability to adjust to different personality types and situations in positive ways</li>
<li>Must always be reliable, caring and gentle in touch and demeanor</li>
<li>Maintain an abiding respect for the elderly and remain calm at all times</li>

Resident Services Aide | 11PM-7AM Shift

POSITION OVERVIEW: 
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervision, the Residential Aide is the primary connection between the operations staff and the residents. The Residential Aide will spend a large amount of time with the residents. Focusing on helping clients who need more hands on assistance. 
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Perform daily room and bed inspections. </li>
<li>Pack up and log items for AWOL residents. </li>
<li>Prepare beds and rooms for new arrivals. </li>
<li>Escort residents to appointments. </li>
<li>Assist in the monitoring and development of resident’s independent living skills</li>
<li>Create progress notes detailing interactions with residents</li>
<li>Conduct intakes with new residents</li>
<li>Safeguard all confidential information for residents including demographic information, services, needs, actions and personal information. </li>
<li>Perform nightly bed counts efficient and accurately.</li>
<li>Serve as back up coverage for kitchen staff.</li>
<li>Conflict resolution between residents.</li>
<li>Create incident reports clearly detailing all events.</li>
<li>Provide backup coverage for operations desk as needed. </li>
<li>Log all events and visitors in the daily logbook</li>
<li>Help maintain the cleanliness of the building </li>
<li>Serve meals to residents in accordance with food management protocols</li>
<li>Monitor common areas to ensure proper usage </li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor</li>
<li>Prepare and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner attend mandatory staff meetings </li>
<li>Other duties in keeping with the scope and nature of the position</li>
</ul>
REQUIREMENTS: 
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma required. </li>
<li>Associates Degree preferred </li>
<li>Knowledge of DHS requirements and protocols preferred</li>
<li>Food Handler’s certificate </li>
<li>Fire safety coordinator certification </li>
<li>Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills </li>
<li>Ability to maintain accurate records and safeguard resident’s confidential information </li>
<li>Basic computer literacy </li>
