Your Role

As a Literacy Coach Consultant, you will serve as a trusted partner and instructional coach for K–3 teachers and school leaders. This role is hands-on and impact-driven: you’ll deliver onsite, job-embedded coaching, model Science of Reading-aligned instruction, and support teachers with phonics and structured literacy programs.

If you have a proven track record of raising student literacy outcomes, deep expertise in foundational reading instruction, and the ability to coach, mentor, and inspire educators, this role offers you the opportunity to transform classrooms and lives.

What You’ll Do

School-Based Coaching (Onsite Role)

  • Deliver job-embedded coaching to K–3 teachers, including co-planning, modeling, side-by-side coaching, and debriefing.
  • Support teachers in implementing core phonics and structured literacy programs such as UFLI, Fundations, Heggerty, Orton-Gillingham, Really Great Reading, Bridge the Gap, and Phonics for Reading.
  • Use Acadience, mCLASS, and classroom assessments to drive instructional planning, group students, and accelerate reading growth.
  • Provide feedback and professional learning aligned to the Science of Reading and district literacy priorities.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with teachers and leaders to ensure coaching impact and sustainability.

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
  • 3+ years of K–3 classroom teaching experience with a strong record of student literacy growth.
  • 2+ years of literacy coaching and/or professional development delivery.
  • Residence in New York City (NYC) for onsite school support.
  • Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, structured literacy, and foundational reading skills.
  • Strong ability to facilitate adult learning, lead coaching cycles, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Experience supporting ELLs/MLLs, students with disabilities, and struggling readers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with evidence-based reading programs (UFLI, Fundations, Heggerty, Orton-Gillingham, Bridge the Gap, Phonics for Reading).
  • Experience using Acadience or mCLASS for progress monitoring and instructional decision-making.

What We Offer

  • Competitive contract-based pay that recognizes your expertise.
  • Flexible scheduling tailored to your availability.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and leadership development.
  • A mission-driven environment committed to closing literacy gaps.
  • The chance to influence instructional practices across multiple NYC schools.
  • Meaningful work that directly impacts K–3 student success, equity, and access.
