Location: 305 7TH Avenue, New York, NY 10010
Schedule/Hours: Full-time/ 40 Hours/Week
Salary: $0 (this is an unpaid internship).
Job Summary and Key Duties:
The Mental Health and Wellbeing internship offers a dynamic opportunity for interns to develop foundational skills in holistic practices and mental health support. Throughout the internship, interns will engage in participant and staff support, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation under the guidance of experienced professionals. By actively participating in team collaborations and advocating for client needs, interns will develop essential skills in communication, cultural humility, and self-awareness. Through hands-on learning and ongoing professional development, interns will emerge equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to make meaningful contributions to the well-being of both participants and staff members, preparing them for future roles in the field of mental health and trauma support.

- Basic knowledge of mental health practices, and their impact on individuals.
- Ability to empathize with participants and staff members, practicing active listening to validate their experiences and emotions.
- Sensitivity, experience and/or knowledge of cultural factors influencing mental health and healing responses and treatment and a commitment to cultural humility.
- Understanding of the importance of self-awareness and self-care to enhance personal and community well-being.
- Willingness to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide support to participants and staff members.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and accurate record keeping practices.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in the field of healing-informed care and mental health
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other interns and team members on projects related to mental health and support services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in ongoing supervision, training, and professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
- Assist in research, curation and dissemination of resources and materials related to mental health and healing-informed care such as handouts and toolkits.
- Assist in providing support to participants such as scheduling appointments, conducting basic needs assessment, developing appropriate plans and coordinating services.
- Co-facilitate psychoeducational sessions for staff and participants on topics related to healing, mental health, and self-care.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential documentation of participant interactions, assessments, and progress notes.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in a master’s program in clinical psychology, social work, mental health counseling, art therapy, or related mental health field.
- Familiarity with basic concepts of mental health, and counseling grained through course work, training, or previous experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy, active listening, and the ability to establish rapport with participants and staff members.
- Awareness of cultural humility and sensitivity to the needs of individuals from different backgrounds and lived experiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team environments, contributing positivity to group dynamics and collective goals.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, professional boundaries, and practicing self-care.
- Willingness to commit to the internship schedule and fulfill the required hours as outlined by the school program and organization.
- Basic computer skills for documentation, research, design, email communication, and use of relevant software/databases.
