About Our Organization:
The Norman Howard School was established in 1980 by parents and community professionals, and is a nonprofit, NYSED-approved, 12:1:1, academic, special education program. Students grades 5-12 from over 30 school districts experience a rich and diverse school culture, learn strategies for managing their special learning needs, and graduate alongside their public school peers.
Job Summary:
The Night Custodian ensures the cleanliness, safety, and security of the school buildings and grounds during non-operational hours. This role involves performing routine cleaning tasks, light maintenance, and ensuring a sanitary environment for students and staff. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash, and securing the facility at the end of the shift.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs nightly custodial work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Cleans lobby, hallways, entrances, kitchen, multi-purpose rooms, and restrooms; restocks supplies.
- Disposes of trash nightly.
- Verifies supply inventory and notifies supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Monitors outside grounds and performs general clean up as needed.
- Performs other custodial tasks and projects, as requested.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- General knowledge of floor maintenance and cleaning procedures.
- Strong social interaction and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6 months prior custodial/maintenance experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform some heavy lifting, up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to shovel/remove snow with a snow blower.
- Must be able to use ladder.
- Must be able to use floor stripping/buffing machinery and vacuum cleaners.
Scheduling:
- Monday through Friday 3:30PM – 12AM
Salary:
- $17.63-$22.36/hour based on experience
