Position Description:The IDEAL School of Manhattan is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and creative Spanish teacher for a full-time position starting in August 2025.All IDEAL teachers are charged with inspiring students in an inclusive and nurturing learning community to achieve personal and academic excellence. IDEAL teachers know their students as learners and as individuals, and they inspire their students by setting a high bar for excellence while making the classroom fun and supporting all learners in achieving their goals. The successful candidate will work effectively with Middle and High School students; partner thoughtfully with colleagues and parents; demonstrate the ability to inspire students at all levels to strive for both personal and academic excellence; and possess a commitment to inclusive education. Global languages are essential to IDEAL’s mission, which strives to expand student horizons and prepare students to be effective global citizens by exposing them to languages and cultures other than American English. The Spanish Teacher will lead inclusive classes within our Middle and High School divisions. As such the teacher will develop successful teaching methods, differentiate, and implement modifications and accommodations to meet the needs of all students, including general education students and students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Additionally, the Spanish teacher will participate in the life of the school, including prep periods, coverage, clubs, advisory, and faculty meetings.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop Spanish language skills of students through activities and project-based learning and experience in the pedagogy of teaching language
- Increase verbal and written fluency in Spanish
- Meet the diverse learning needs of the students in in the room through differentiation and modification of curriculum
- Foster a passion for language and cultural literacy in students
- Contribute time and talent outside of the classroom to the growth of students and the school, including student advisory, providing coverage and participation in student clubs
- Participate in ongoing staff development that supports the curriculum and differentiated instruction, as well as the hands on problem based immersion language approach
- Regularly confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic challenges
- Exemplify understanding and application of the school’s mission, including its commitment to social justice
- Participate in collaboration regularly as a part of a team
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree required, Master's degree preferred
- 1-2 years experience in teaching Spanish in an educational institution
- Demonstrated understanding for the school’s mission and our unique range of students
- Proven ability to conduct classes entirely in the target language as appropriate
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven knowledge of principles and experience applying methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of impact.
Preferred Qualifications
- Independent school experience is preferred
- Experience with of Vomos/Somos Curriculum
- A strong understanding of differentiation with proven ability to adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests;
- Experience instructing students individually and in groups, using teaching various teaching methods, as appropriate to meet the needs of the student
- Experience working cooperatively as a part of a teaching team
- Experienced collaborating with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic challenges
