Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) - PreOp/Ambulatory Surgery

Job Summary

The Travel RN - PreOp/Ambulatory Surgery provides specialized nursing care for pre-operative and ambulatory surgery patients, ensuring safe preparation for procedures and smooth post-anesthesia recovery. This role requires Epic EMR proficiency, strong patient assessment skills, and experience in fast-paced surgical settings.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct pre-operative assessments (vitals, medical history, lab reviews).
  • Administer IV medications, antibiotics, and pre-op sedatives.
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures and post-op care.
  • Assist with post-anesthesia care (PACU) as needed.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions and complications.
  • Ensure proper NPO compliance and surgical site verification.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Epic EMR documentation (required).
  • Adhere to surgical safety protocols (time-outs, infection control).
  • Maintain accurate patient records and consents.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR staff.
  • Coordinate with PACU and discharge planners for smooth transitions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Active RN license (NY or compact state).
  • BLS, ACLS (required).
  • PALS (preferred but not mandatory).

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent PreOp, Ambulatory Surgery, or PACU experience.
  • Epic EMR proficiency (non-negotiable).
  • Experience with IV insertion, patient education, and surgical prep.

Other Requirements

  • Scrub Color: Navy blue (strict dress code).
  • No local candidates (check AMC’s ineligible counties list).
  • Occasional weekends/holidays required.

Schedule & Contract Details

  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks (07/21/2025 – 09/10/2025).
  • Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
  • Weekends/Holidays: Occasional (as needed).
  • Floating: Possible (confirm during interview).

Work Environment

  • Hospital: Albany Medical Center (academic medical center).
  • Unit: PreOp/Ambulatory Surgery Unit (fast-paced, high-volume).
  • EMR: Epic (required experience).
