Are you a hands-on food service professional who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments? CW is seeking an Assistant Food Service Manager to help lead dining facility operations at Fort Drum, supporting the daily nourishment of those who serve.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in managing daily DFAC operations to deliver consistent, high-quality meal service to military personnel.
- Supervise and train food service staff to meet sanitation, safety, and military standards.
- Support inventory control, procurement, and storage of food and supplies in line with contract requirements.
- Conduct inspections and help enforce cleanliness and operational readiness protocols.
- Collaborate with government officials, military leadership, and internal teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Help resolve operational issues and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Prepare and submit reports, audits, and performance data with accuracy and timeliness.
- Participate in field feeding, surge operations, and special events as needed.
What You’ll Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in food service operations, preferably in military, government, or institutional settings.
- Minimum of 2 years of working in a team lead or similar role.
- Knowledge of budgeting, inventory control, and operational reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and inventory/reporting systems.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Associate’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related field.
- ServSafe Manager certification; HACCP preferred.
- Experience with contingency feeding or emergency response operations.
- Background in staff training or project support.
- Knowledge of sustainable food service and waste reduction practices.

Physical & Environmental:
- Frequently stands and walks throughout the dining facility and kitchen areas during meal service, inspections, and staff supervision. Shifts may require 6–10 hours of intermittent movement on hard surfaces.
- Regularly perform administrative duties at a desk, including scheduling, reporting, inventory management, and communication with government personnel. May sit for extended periods while using a computer or reviewing documentation.
- Occasionally lifts and moves boxes of food, cleaning supplies, and small equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires frequent movement between food prep areas, serving lines, storage rooms, dishwashing stations, and office spaces. Must respond promptly to operational needs across the facility.
- May bend, stoop, or reach during inspections, equipment checks, or when assisting staff with physical tasks.
- Works in hot environments near cooking equipment and cold areas such as walk-in refrigerators and freezers. Must transition between temperature zones during routine oversight.
- Exposed to ambient noise from kitchen equipment, ventilation systems, and team communications.
- Encounters food aromas, steam, and cleaning chemicals during walkthroughs and inspections. Sensory tolerance is required to work safely and comfortably.
- May encounter wet or slick floors due to spills or cleaning activities. Use of slip-resistant footwear and enforcement of safety protocols is essential.
