Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island. Approximately fifty minutes (28 miles) from NYC by train, Portledge is nestled on a pastoral 63-acre tree-lined campus that is known for its cherry blossoms in spring. Enrolling approximately 535 students in grades PN-12, Portledge offers a competitive college preparatory program in a warm, inclusive community. Job Description:
Portledge School seeks to hire a part-time After School Coordinator to oversee all lower school after school programs in the Lower School on Mondays-Fridays from approximately 2:30pm-6:00pm. This is a part-time, 10-month position operating during days that classes are in session from September to June in a typical school year. The After School Coordinator will report to the Lower School Director.
Responsibilities:

Oversee the Lower School’s “After 3:30pm Club” and the “After School Ed Programming” which offers age-level topical programs (e.g., Chess; Basketball; Dance; etc) with outside vendors

Design and implement a schedule of activities with After 3:30 pm Club staff each day, including outdoor play, structured and unstructured play activities, snacks, and homework support.

Provide supervision coverage of enrolled students in all after-school programs as needed

Engage regularly with Portledge families through casual and formal family meetings to build strong community relationships and gauge interest in new or improved program activities.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Experience in an educational setting is required.

Experience managing instructional and care-oriented professionals required.

Ability to comfortably, warmly, and effectively engage with large and small groups of adults and/or students in professional or social settings.

Belief in the value of all types of diversity with a commitment to social justice and equity

Anti-racism/anti-bias training preferred.

Dedicated to following and modeling Portledge safety and security procedures for all auxiliary program staff and participating students.

Proven success with creating and implementing a schedule of auxiliary program activities.

Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with colleagues, direct reports, students, and families.

Ability to problem solve and make sound, timely decisions.

Flexible schedule with blocked availability for the majority of the summer months when classes are not in session.

CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
