Summary:
The R&D Food Chemist will lead the development and optimization of formulations for new and existing products, ensuring performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. Collaborate cross-functionally with product, QA, production, and EH&S teams to align formulations with company goals and market demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- The R&D Food Chemist will develop, test, and refine formulations to meet performance, stability, cost, and regulatory requirements
- Create prototypes and support scale-up from lab to production
- Conduct stability studies, lab tests, and field trials; troubleshoot as needed
- The R&D Food Chemist will document formulation methods and results, input data into Vicinity Manufacturing Software
- Research raw materials, ingredients, and trends for innovation
- The R&D Food Chemist will advise on compatible packaging and contribute to QA specification development
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Formulation:
- Develop and improve food products: R&D Food Chemist will use their understanding of chemistry, biology, and other sciences to create new food items and refine existing ones.
- Create and update formulas: Utilize formulation software to create and update recipes and product specifications.
- Balance taste, texture, and nutritional value: Formulation involves considering consumer preferences, nutritional requirements, and product stability.
Sanitation:
- Ensure food safety: R&D Food Chemist will play a critical role in preventing foodborne illnesses by establishing and monitoring sanitation procedures.
- Develop and implement hygiene protocols: Establish guidelines for cleaning, sanitizing, personal hygiene, pest control, and proper storage.
- Inspect facilities for compliance: Inspect food processing areas to ensure they adhere to government regulations and standards for sanitation and waste management
Qualifications:
- The R&D Food Chemist must hold a B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry
- Must have a minimum of 10–15 years in food formulation sanitation experience
- Must have made sanitizers from scratch
- Must have 5+ years of leadership experience
- Must have strong formulation and lab technique expertise
- The Food Scientist must be proficient in analytical tools (HPLC, GC, IR, etc.)
- Knowledge of chemical safety and regulatory standards
- Strong collaboration and project management
- Must be willing to travel
- Must be able to work WITHOUT A VISA SPONSORSHIP
