About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Medical Biller to support and strengthen our revenue cycle operations. This role goes beyond basic payment posting — we are looking for someone who understands the full lifecycle of claims management and takes ownership of denial resolution and payment optimization.
This position is ideal for a biller who enjoys working independently, identifying patterns in denials, and contributing to operational improvement within a growing behavioral health practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up on insurance denials and unpaid claims
- Investigate claim status and identify root causes
- Track and categorize denial trends; escalate systemic issues when appropriate
- Post insurance payments, copays, and patient payments
- Reconcile EOBs and ERAs; resolve unapplied balances
- Communicate professionally with patients regarding outstanding balances
- Establish payment plans per practice policy
- Maintain accurate documentation within the EHR
- Provide brief weekly summaries (denials reviewed, balances addressed, payments collected)
Qualifications
- 2+ years of medical billing experience (behavioral/mental health strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10 coding
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
- Demonstrated ability to research and resolve claim denials
- Proficiency in insurance reimbursement workflows and compliance standards
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting

Position Details
- Remote (New York-based preferred)
- Part-time | 10–15 hours per week | Flexible schedule
- $18–$20 per hour (based on experience) | 1099 Independent Contractor
- Opportunity to expand to full-time as the practice grows
