Portledge School was founded in 1965 and is located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island. Approximately fifty minutes (28 miles) from NYC by train, Portledge is nestled on a pastoral 63-acre tree-lined campus that is known for its cherry blossoms in spring. Enrolling approximately 500 students in grades N-12, Portledge offers a competitive college preparatory program in a warm, inclusive community. Job Description:
Portledge School seeks to hire a dynamic 5th grade teacher who is driven to create a classroom environment where student learning is a non-negotiable goal and passion is evident on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong mathematics instruction background with the ability to teach literacy, social studies and lead a homeroom class. Responsibilities include actively evaluating and developing the Lower School curriculum, building positive relationships with students and families, participating collegially in meetings and taking an active role in the life of the school community.

Qualifications:

BA Degree minimum; advanced degree preferred in relevant area(s)

Teaching certification required for all elementary teaching positions

Math experience / Course work preferred

Ability to develop trusting, supportive relationships with students.

Superb written and oral communication as well as organizational and time management skills.

Compensation Range:
$70,000-$80,000 per year
