POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Senior Child Care Director, the School Age Site Supervisor is responsible for management of the daily operation of a school age child care program, in accordance with the goals of the Olean YMCA and the regulations of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Be responsible for the safety and supervision of the children at all times, including being able to implement emergency procedures.
2. Interact positively with the children daily, displaying the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all program activities.
3. Develop a posted daily schedule and establish a structure for the site operation, ensuring that the program meets the highest quality standards as recommended by OCFS and the YMCA. Create, prepare for and implement weekly lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and reflect the children’s needs and interests. Obtain and prepare necessary supplies in advance, when necessary.
4. Be responsible for the purchase of snack and supplies for the Program. Turn in receipts and the company credit card after use, as necessary.
5. Perform specific tasks related to the daily operation of the school age child care site such as creating and administering small group activities, arts and crafts preparation, meal service, positive discipline strategies and other tasks as assigned by the Senior Child Care Director.
6. Effectively communicate with parents, verbally and in writing, on a daily basis.
7. Train, supervise, schedule, and assist in the appraisal of support staff and volunteers in the classroom. Approve staff time cards on an at least bi-weekly basis.
8. Facilitates communication and provides leadership; models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
9. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
10. Maintain the appearance of the program area, ensuring a high quality of supplies, equipment, and materials. Light maintenance tasks such as sweeping, cleaning tables, and garbage removal are also expected.
11. Complete daily documentation of attendance, incidents, accident reports, CACFP meal counts, etc. in compliance with state licensing requirements.
12. At least weekly, update any tracking sheets to reflect current rosters as well as keep the DSS attendance tracker current with times and attendance.
13. Submit all child care payments immediately upon receipt and provide parents with duplicate receipts at time of payment, as deemed necessary.
14. Work as a team with other child care staff members and site leadership.
15. Attend staff meetings and in-service workshops to meet additional educational requirements established by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. The Site Supervisor must attend 30 training hours every two years during the current licensing period of the child care site, 15 of which must be obtained in the first 6 months of employment with a minimum of 5 hours each calendar year.
16. Attend parent-child events and other events related to your program, as requested.
17. Participate in YMCA Volunteer programs such as Annual Campaign and United Way.
18. Demonstrate quality standards in Character Development at all times.
19. Promote Activate America principles in your program area at all times.
20. Be professional, alert, and eliminate unsafe practices and physical hazards.
21. Continue professional development through community involvement; reading; and further education as well as remain up to date on current trends in the childcare field.
22. Carry out additional assignments and responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Child Care Director.
23. This job description may not be all-inclusive and duties may be modified when deemed appropriate by the CEO. Employees are expected to perform all other duties as assigned and directed by the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
In accordance with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the School Age Site Supervisor must be 18 years of age and possess an Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Recreation or related field or a high School Diploma or its equivalent and two years substantial experience working with children under the age of 13 years.
Prior to the start of employment, documentation of a current medical statement and TB skin test must be submitted and every two years, thereafter. In addition, the Site Supervisor must submit to State Central Register and criminal background clearance checks.
