Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations and assessments for pediatric patients including neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based physical therapy principles and practices
  • Administer therapeutic interventions including corrective exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, and age-appropriate modalities
  • Provide patient and family education on proper use of assistive devices, adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment programs based on clinical evaluation and outcomes
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members including physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and speech therapists
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, safety protocols, infection control standards, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Provide guidance and supervision to physical therapy assistants and support staff as needed
  • Participate in continuing education, professional development activities, in-service training, and departmental meetings
  • Maintain equipment safety and proper functioning of rehabilitation department supplies
  • Deliver patient-centered care that prioritizes customer satisfaction and positive patient experiences

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program
  • Current New York State Physical Therapy license or eligibility to obtain licensure at time of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date
  • Strong clinical assessment and evaluation skills for pediatric populations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient, family, and team collaboration
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds independently and 150 pounds with assistance
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and infection control procedures
  • Commitment to adhering to hospital safety policies including fire safety and disaster protocols
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation and medical record keeping

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in hospital or outpatient pediatric rehabilitation setting
  • Pediatric Physical Therapy Board Certification (PCS)
  • Experience with developmental assessment and intervention for children
  • Familiarity with age-appropriate therapeutic equipment and modalities
