Job DescriptionAuthorization Specialist
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM (On-site)
Type: Temp-to-Perm
Overview:
We are seeking an Authorization Specialist with 1-3 years of recent experience handling authorizations for surgical practices, ideally in orthopedics, pain management, or ambulatory surgery. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate pre-authorizations, coordinating with healthcare providers, payers, and patients to support smooth procedure approvals.
Key Responsibilities:

Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for scheduled procedures

Obtain pre-authorizations and pre-determinations from commercial payers (Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United, etc.)

Review and interpret EOBs to resolve authorization or coverage issues

Communicate with providers and patients regarding authorization status and requirements

Maintain detailed records of all requests, approvals, and denials

Collaborate with the team to streamline workflows and improve turnaround times
Qualifications:

1-3 years of experience in prior authorizations, preferably out-of-network or surgical (orthopedic/pain management) settings

Strong understanding of insurance verification, medical terminology, and EOB interpretation

Experience with SequelMed or similar EHR/authorization systems

Excellent communication and organizational skills; detail-oriented and proactive

Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Office Suite

Medical billing/coding certification preferred
Volume:
Currently 10-15 authorizations per day, expected to increase as processes scale.
