Mc Gowan is seeking a Junior Estimator to support our New York operations. The Junior Estimator will assist in developing and preparing construction cost estimates for a variety of projects during the early planning stages. This role will also support the project team by updating cost data and helping track budget changes throughout the Pre-construction phase. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of contributing to multiple projects at once in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure preparation of detailed estimates based on the construction drawings and specifications
- Junior Estimator is responsible for the communication of bids and scopes of work to supervisors
- Generate and maintain estimating log for bid packages (Budget estimates, GMP’s, Lump Sums, Cost Plus etc.)
- Generate and maintain bid packages for subcontractors RFP’s
- Assist senior estimator(s) ,with bid packages include preparation of complete quantity take-offs, analysis, and estimate for all items in the assigned scope
- Develop a value analysis by defining alternatives to the proposed scope that are more cost-efficient
- Liaison with subcontractors, design team (architects, engineers, consultants) and client
- Prepare detailed estimate of entire scope of assigned trades, building system, and/or overall project cost, during different phases of design such as Concept Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents
- Prepare and assemble bids and proposals for different contract types (lump sum, GMP, Cost Plus, etc.)
- Analyze existing site conditions and all contract documents (plans, specifications, etc.) to determine any required scope that is not indicated
- Prepare scope requisitions for assigned trades; coordinate with fellow estimators to eliminate scope gaps and overlaps
- Work with operations staff and fellow estimators to ensure that general conditions and general requirements items are properly addressed in the estimate
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work
- Determine if scope is covered and manage risk of scope gaps
- Make recommendations to Chief Estimator for subcontractor or vendor awards
Qualifications & Requirements
- 2-5 years construction estimating
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field required
- Experience utilizing estimating software such as On Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, Autodesk, etc. required
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Standard Office Environment 100% of time
- Site visit, and/or walkthroughs for estimating purposes are on as needed basis Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Developed interpersonal, organizational and teamwork skills are necessary
Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
