In Flight Inc., is a nonprofit that provides support services within a home environment and the community for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
The Human Resource Department has an opening for a Trainer. This is a 30-hour non-exempt position. The Trainer must be flexible and have the ability to work during the week as well as evenings and weekends when necessary. There is availability to arrange the schedule as needed. The HR office is in Red Hook, the Trainer will be working in Kingston, Saugerties, Red Hook and locations throughout Columbia County. This position reports to the Associate Director of Human Resources and works with the Training Coordinator.
Scope of Work Performed: Will work in collaboration with the Training Coordinator to facilitate In Flight’s training policies and procedures. Training will include, but not be limited to, courses mandated by the state of NY and OPWDD. These regular educational sessions include CPR, First Aid, Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R), Mandated Reporter Training, HIPAA, Sexual Harassment, etc. The Trainer will assist in conducting training programs for staff. The Trainer ensures licensing standards are met and that staff are trained in areas related to professionalism, job duties, and knowledge related to agency mission and goals. This position reports directly to Associate Director of Human Resources.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree preferred or High School Diploma/GED.
- Experience working with people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
- Must have valid NYS License and acceptable driving record based on agency standards.
- Must be a certified CPR/First Aid Instructor or become certified.
- Must be certified to teach Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised (SCIP-R) or become certified.
- Must be familiar with person centered planning, Core Competencies, HCBS Waiver and the Personal Outcome Measures® (POMs).
- Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Knowledge of Therap, Med Certification regulations, Behavior Plans and documentation requirements under OPWDD.
Duties:
- Works in conjunction with the Training Coordinator to ensure that orientations, recerts and on-the-job training along with continuous education is being completed for incoming and permanent staff.
- Coordinates with the Training Coordinator to be available for scheduled training. Looks for new and relevant trainings that can be incorporated into agency needs and future growth.
- Works with the Trainer and Associate Director of Human Resources to give feedback on curriculum to promote retention and career growth including observing staff on shift.
- Along with the Training Coordinator will oversee completion of 90 days on the job training checklist and work with Managers to provide additional training in line with DSP Competencies.
- Retrains staff as deemed necessary and as directed by management.
- Will be available evenings and weekends as needed to work with DSPs for observations and training.
- Other duties as requested by the Vice President of Human Resources and/or Executive Director.
SKILLS
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Conditions of Employment: The employee agrees to comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, rules, regulations, and standards of conduct relating to the position. All staff must pass all NYS Justice Center Background Check Requirements, and Physical. In addition, the employee has a duty to report any suspected violations of the law (including any motor vehicle infractions) to the VP of Human Resources.
