Garg Consulting Services, Inc. (Garg) is a leading multidisciplinary engineering and construction management firm specializing in civil, highway, bridge, and structural engineering. We provide construction inspection services and deliver high-quality infrastructure projects across New York and the Northeast. We are currently seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to join our NYC-area team.
Position Overview
As a Resident Engineer, you will oversee construction inspection and project management activities for highway, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects. This role requires hands-on field experience, technical expertise, and leadership to ensure projects meet design, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve construction-related issues.
- Review project documentation, including plans, drawings, and specifications, for accuracy and completeness.
- Review and approve engineering and project submissions such as RFIs, working drawings, and value engineering requests.
- Conduct materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation.
- Monitor construction activities to verify adherence to plans and specifications.
- Track, document, and manage project issues and conditions.
- Document field conditions and completed work.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical guidance on construction inspection; record meeting minutes when required.
- Contribute to and prepare monthly project status reports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent certification
- Active New York Professional Engineer (PE) license or NICET IV required
- Minimum 8 years of experience as a Resident Engineer; 5 years in highway and bridge construction
- Experience with NYSDOT or NYSTA projects preferred
- Strong knowledge of rail design practices and construction techniques
- Meet background check requirements
- 30-Hour OSHA Certification
- Working knowledge of CPM scheduling; P6 experience preferred
- Ability to perform quantity and engineering computations, interpret plans and specifications, and apply inspection codes and material testing requirements
- Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards
- Proficiency with computer software and mobile devices for documentation and reporting
- Physical ability to perform site inspections in various weather conditions
- Detail-oriented with excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in highway, bridge, and rail infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of construction management practices and quality assurance protocols
- Experience with design-build and conventional project delivery
- Strong stakeholder and client communication skills
