The Training & Development Manager will lead the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive training program for our diverse workforce. This role will be responsible for creating structured career pathways, developing role-specific training, and fostering employee growth at all levelsfrom craft workers to executive leadership. The ideal candidate will collaborate with leadership, HR, and field teams to align training initiatives with company goals, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
Training Program Development & Implementation
- Design, implement, and oversee training programs for field operations, safety compliance, leadership development, and technical skills.
- Develop structured career pathways and mentoring programs to support employee advancement.
- Collaborate with department heads, field supervision, HR, and safety teams to assess training needs and create workforce developmentstrategies.
- Design and manage apprenticeship programs, certification training, and leadership development initiatives.
- Write detailed training syllabi, course objectives, and materials for various job roles, from craft workers to executive leadership.
- Coordinate with external training providers, trade schools, and industry associations to enhance learning opportunities.
Training Delivery & Administration
- Oversee the scheduling, logistics, and facilitation of training sessions across multiple locations.
- Partner with internal teams to assess skill gaps and adjust training programs accordingly.
- Support the development and career growth of employees by providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and training.
- Maintain detailed training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
- Assist in implementing and managing learning management systems (LMS) to track training participation and progress.
Compliance & Industry Standards
- Ensure training programs align with industry regulations, safety standards, and certification requirements.
- Stay updated on construction industry trends to incorporate best practices into training programs.
- Build relationships with external partners, including high schools, trade schools, and colleges, to align workforce training with business needs.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor and report on training effectiveness, employee development metrics, and ROI of training investments.
- Conduct regular assessments and feedback sessions to refine training programs based on employee needs and industry trends.
- Identify opportunities for innovation in instructional design, adult learning principles, and training delivery methods.
- Conduct research and prepare grant proposals to secure funding for training programs.
- Work closely with the Training Committee to coordinate and develop training initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Construction Management, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in training development, workforce training, or HR (construction industry experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and workforce development strategies.
- Experience in field-based training programs, particularly in a multi-divisional environment.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization and drive training adoption.
- General knowledge of safety regulations, industry certifications, and compliance requirements in construction (especially in heavy highway and civil sectors).
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training tracking software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing apprenticeship programs, mentorship initiatives, and leadership training.
- Familiarity with construction-specific training programs, trade certifications, and industry compliance.
- Project management experience, demonstrating the ability to lead training initiatives from start to finish.
