Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Program Directors and Dean of the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing, nursing faculty deliver didactic, laboratory and/or clinical instructions according to an approved course syllabus using accepted and effective teaching methods in a face-to-face and/or online courses. Teaching responsibilities include initiating, facilitating, and moderating classroom discussion, laboratory and clinical assignments offered during the day, evening or weekend with travel to off-campus clinical sites. Additionally, the position includes student advisement and committee responsibilities as well as curriculum development and program assessment activities.


Nursing faculty also maintain current and accurate attendance and grade records; remains current in the nursing and health science field; participate in college activities, faculty development offerings, student-led activities, commencement and Nursing Pinning ceremonies, open-house sessions, and new student orientations.


Full-time nursing faculty teach a minimum credit load of 15 credits per semester throughout the curriculum in the generalist Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing and Bachelors of Science in nursing programs. The faculty member may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode and expected to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Specific assignments are dependent upon departmental needs.


Full-time nursing faculty demonstrate a commitment to enriching the lives of students by promoting a positive learning environment; enhancing the quality of the student experience; and philosophically supporting programs and policies that facilitate student success.


Minimum Qualifications:

· Master's of Science degree in nursing (MSN)

· A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse

· Unencumbered NYS nursing license

· Current BLS and CPR Certification

· Strong teaching and communication skills

· A demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations

· Expertise in using Microsoft 365

· Expertise in using Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Canvas

· Flexibility in work schedule is necessary


Preferred Qualifications:

· Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) or Ph.D. in Nursing discipline

· Three years' experience teaching in a college or university

· High-quality formal teaching experience preferred


Job Specific Competencies:

· Teach and guide students in courses, labs and clinical theory related to assigned program

· Developing and updating course materials, including syllabi, lectures, and assignments

· Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with laboratory equipment and competently perform laboratory procedures

· Create a learning environment that facilitates student learning and achievement of expected program outcomes

· Assess and evaluate student learning in the learning environment

· Ensure curriculum alignment with program goals and accreditation standards

· Able to interact effectively with a diverse population

· Advise and mentor students on academic and career pathways

· Facilitate student development and integration of expected nursing values and behaviors

· Demonstrate knowledge and ongoing professional development toward an understanding of advances and developments in discipline as well as with current teaching methodologies

· Pursue continuous quality improvements in assigned courses

· Participate in or chair nursing program or College committees

· Engage in college service activities at all levels

· Negotiate and grow cooperative relationships with practice leaders at clinical experiential learning sites

· Participate in the planning and assessment of the program through faculty governance and quality improvement activities

· Maintain a collaborative working relationship with other faculty and staff

· Maintain compliance with required agency and College policies

· Engage with faculty, the administrative leadership team, and students in furthering the mission and goals of the school of nursing and the college as a whole

· Participate in special projects as needed

· There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position
