Legal Assistant/ Paralegal

We are a vibrant, busy, and growing full-service law firm looking to increase its talented ranks of professional staff by adding a Legal Assistant/ Paralegal with a demonstrated interest and experience of 3-5 years in an administrative capacity. This role will provide support to our Mental Health and Hygiene team in Lake Success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drafting litigation documents including, motions, orders, and post-judgment work.
- Drafting correspondence, responses according to judicial procedures, and other related documents.
- Preparing and maintaining files in both paper and electronic forms.
- Maintain detailed calendars in Outlook, scheduling and coordinating internal and external meetings, as necessary.
- Knowledge of Guardianship pleadings and proceedings, helpful
- Manage administrative duties including but not limited to arranging conference calls, meetings, creating and maintaining paper and electronic files, miscellaneous photocopying, scanning, and printing requests.
- Create, edit, format, and proofread letters, memos, and other documents using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Request conflict checks, open new client matters, and submit electronic approvals, as needed.
- Liaise directly with clients and third parties through all phases of litigation and/or case resolution.
- Taking phone calls/accurate messages for multiple attorneys as well as handling calendars.
- Other ad hoc projects as needed.
Paralegal Requirements
- Experience with drafting legal documents, through all phases of litigation, including discovery requests, RJIs, motions, stipulations, subpoenas, notices, and post-judgment papers.
- Experience formatting briefs, and preparing exhibit books.
- OCR documents.
- Experience with filing court documents, including e-filing in both state and federal courts (NYSCEF and ECF)
- Experience tracking court dates and deadlines.
- Must be extremely organized and able to maintain a high case volume.
- Eagerness to learn new skills.
- Must be familiar with MS Office skills (including Excel and Outlook), Adobe, West Law, Litify, etc.
- Excellent communication skills and a polished presentation are also needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- At least 3-5 years of experience providing administrative support in a law firm environment.
- Paralegal Certificate is preferred.
- Excellent client service and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented.
- Knowledge of Litify or equivalent law firm billing experience is preferred but not required.
- Proactive and anticipatory.
- Solid knowledge of computers and software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to think clearly and work well under pressure in a busy environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of staff within the office.
This role is based out of Lake Success, NY.
Compensation: $55,000-$65,000
