TRC Internal Security Officer
Location: The Riverside Church in the City of New York (New York, NY)
Reports to: Director of Security
Department: Operations
Scheduled Work Hours: Full-Time: 40 hours, 7:30am to 4:00pm OR Part-Time: 24 hours, schedule assigned upon hire
Hourly Range: $18 - 18 per hour
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary duty of the Security Team at The Riverside Church is to ensure the safety, care, and well-being of all individuals who enter our sacred space. As stewards of this historic and spiritual institution, our security personnel are expected to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and compassion at all times. The role extends beyond enforcement—it embodies service, respect, and the protection of our values and community.
Shifts available:
Day Shift: 7:30am to 4:00pm
Afternoon Shift: 4:00pm to 12:00am
Overnight Shift: 12:00am to 8:00am
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Building Patrols and Documentation:
- Conduct thorough building rounds during every shift.
- Complete and submit roving patrol logs for supervisory review.
- Rounds and documentation will be monitored by either the on-duty Security Supervisor or Fire Life Safety Director (FLSD).
2. Chain of Command:
- Your immediate point of contact is the Security Supervisor.
- In the absence of a Supervisor, report to the FLSD on duty.
- All staff are under the leadership of the Security Director, Richard J. Gregg.
3. Professional Conduct:
- Cell phone use is prohibited while on active duty.
- Loitering, socializing, or eating at the front desk is not permitted.
- Security officers must remain alert, respectful, and courteous—especially during worship services, events, and guest interactions.
4. Policy Compliance:
- All officers must comply with the Riverside Church Employee Handbook, which will be provided upon onboarding.
- Security team members are expected to follow all church policies, procedures, and conduct guidelines without exception.
- All issues, safety concerns, or violations of protocol must be promptly reported to the Director of Security. Timely reporting ensures proper documentation, response, and accountability.
- Officers must remain informed of policy updates and participate in all required compliance training sessions.
Qualifications:
- Hold a valid New York State Security Guard License. This license must be current and is verified at the time of hire.
- Possess a valid Fire Guard Certificate (F-01 or equivalent), as required for this specific house of worship.
- Be eligible to work in the United States and pass background screening in accordance with New York State and Riverside Church policies
