SUMMARY

Under general direction, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, and delivering occupational therapy services to adults with physical, developmental, and/or cognitive disabilities. The role focuses on promoting independence, functional skill development, and meaningful participation in daily living, vocational, and community-based activities. Services are provided in accordance with individualized service plans, professional standards, and all applicable regulatory and agency requirements, using a person-centered and outcomes-driven approach.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist will include but are not limited to the following:

  • · Evaluates the people we support who were referred to the program to establish learning and performance capabilities and develops a treatment plan to attain established goals working within the scope of the diagnosed disability. Evaluation includes activities of daily living (mealtime, dressing, grooming, hygiene, transfers), fine motor and gross motor skills, sensory awareness, perceptual motor skills, homemaking and independent living skills.
  • Develops a treatment plan and goal based on assessment.
  • Selects educational, recreational and social activities in order to aid the people we support in adjusting to their disability and teaches adaptive skills necessary to perform daily living and/or vocational tasks.
  • Participates in in-service education for other staff relevant to techniques and objectives of the program.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required by each program.
  • Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into programs or home of person served through consultation with parent/guardian and staff at team meetings, case conferences or through other informal contacts.
  • Documents therapy activities, progress, and outcomes in records for the people we support, and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members—including social workers, nurses, and other clinical staff—to support holistic health, well-being, and individualized outcomes.
  • Records progress on all active cases in therapy, monitors therapy status, and makes appropriate recommendations as changes occur.
  • Refers the people we support to other clinical services if such referral is felt appropriate
  • Designs, makes and fits adaptive devices for the use of the people we support, such as splints, shoes or braces.
  • Trains and instructs program staff as required.
  • Assists with other duties i.e. arrival, dismissal, mealtime, bathroom use, classroom management.
  • Provides supervision to students and Occupational Therapy Assistants as needed.
  • Maintains equipment and orders supplies as required.
  • Performs other related duties as requested


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. Masters preferred.
  • Current NY State license in Occupational Therapy
  • One year of prior Occupational Therapist experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit service delivery models is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with employees, co-workers, families, other departments, outside contacts, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong initiative, an eagerness to learn, and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and travel to, and between programs, administrative, and project locations.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

COMPENSATION: $42.40/hour + Industry-Leading Benefits for all full-time employees.
