SUMMARY
As a member of the Can Bottle Return team, the Sort Machine Operator [SMO] is instrumental in developing and fulfilling the short/long-term goals for the Division and executing the company philosophy through customer relations, guest obsession, cleanliness, upbeat attitude, and attention to detail. This position is responsible for creating an atmosphere that will inspire customers, employees, associates, and vendors to return. The individual will instill a strong atmosphere of service excellence through example to promote self- motivation and a positive customer experience. This is a utility role, doing many tasks per shift as required. This person will also need to be organized, clean, and on-time. A key part of every employee’s job is to serve as a Baker Management ambassador, engaging the customer at every opportunity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
PRIMARY DIRECTIVE: Keep proper material moving through sorting machine and facility through leadership and example. Collaborate with team members & Mgr to assess the best outcomes while keeping physical station safe, clean, and in showroom condition while making sure assets are properly operating, maintained, and operable while customer satisfaction is high. To accomplish this:
1. Understand company’s policies, procedures, and best practices for both Baker Management and Can Bottle. Has read employee manual and keys to success.
2. Maintain a positive work environment by communicating in a courteous, polite, and professional manner with all customers, co-workers, and vendors.
3. Professional, polite, and courteous correspondence always with customers and vendors while managing a high frequency of can bottle counting & sorting. Always on alert, knowing shut-off locations and effectively communicating challenges to Mgr.
4. Maintain awareness of all safety and security procedures relevant to the Company and Division.
5. Sort and count glass returns.
6. Cleanliness and organization of workstation and entire sort line, loading dock, and physical plant
7. Proper closing of station at end of day, including cleaning, wash downs, sanitation, and properly putting everything away where it belongs.
8. General upkeep of equipment, including reporting challenges.
9. With Mgr deploy proper closing and maintenance of machinery with proper intervals
10. Proper use of all cleaning solutions, cleaning wares, and general lubricants – including but not limited to training, use, and inventory
11. Hand Sorting and event sorting when required
12. Trash/Recycling maintenance and removal; including mopping floor regularly throughout the day.
13. Maintain awareness of all orders, events, customer demands, and all business levels.
14. Perform any reasonable tasks as requested by management and ownership.
15. Participates in and promotes safety, accident prevention and recycling efforts.
16. Always an ambassador to the company and the example to the employees for the entire division through action, behavior, and presentation.
17. Stack and properly record bags, and outbound materials accurately
EQUIPMENT USED:
o Personal computer, telephone, printer
o Counting Machine main panel
o Sorting Machine(s) main panel
o Cleaning tools and equipment including broom, mop, soaps, lubricants
o Base sanitation knowledge – trash and recycling bins and bags
o Pallet Jack
o Hydraulic dock/gate
o Hoist
RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:
1. Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Baker Management customers at all times.
2. Safety brand ambassador – cultural safety leader
3. Promptly report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor and/or appropriate department(s).
4. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor and appropriate department(s), following documented procedures.
5. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Company’s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
6. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
7. Drive in accordance with the law and Baker Management policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Service experience with an understanding of being focused during a high volume of workload and be courteous and safe. Must possess and maintain great customer relations and teamwork practices and standards at all times.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 65 pounds as well as lift overhead to place items on shelves or in trailer. Employees may also be asked to bend down multiple times per shift.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, slippery and wet floors, handling of materials with sugar, handling of trash, ice and snow, cold, and heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually medium loud.
All safety PP&E is available should the employee require or request it.
