Youth Peer Mentor (YRM)

Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Youth Peer Mentor (YRM) to provide youth-focused, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed recovery services to ACS-involved youth and families. This role centers on building rapport, assessing readiness for change, exploring recovery goals, and offering tailored interventions to foster motivation and long-term wellness.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Care of Recovery Services (70%)

  • Provide orientation to youth regarding the recovery process and facilitate access to SUD treatment/recovery services.

  • Engage youth in preventing increased use, maintaining motivation, and connecting to youth development resources.

  • Explore recovery goals, promote motivation for change, address barriers, and identify treatment and recovery options.

  • Assist youth in developing individualized strategies to meet recovery and personal goals.

  • Escort youth to appointments with agencies, self-help groups, and other resources as needed.

  • Promote self-advocacy and ensure youth voices guide recovery and rehabilitation services.

  • Conduct sessions with youth and parents/guardians to strengthen family involvement in recovery.

  • Connect youth and families to educational, employment, prevention, and support services.

  • Participate in outreach to inform the community about available services.

Administrative Support (20%)

  • Maintain accurate records of peer activities.

  • Document interactions with youth in both physical files and electronic databases.

General Responsibilities (10%)

  • Provide advocacy services for ACS and juvenile justice-involved participants.

  • Facilitate family-focused meetings.

  • Build and maintain relationships with community groups and agencies.

  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Ability to use lived experiences to support youth in their resiliency, recovery, and wellness journey.

  • Familiarity with the HCBS Behavioral Health "peer service" model.

  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations in an addiction or recovery setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic database systems preferred.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
