Rye Country Day School is seeking a Middle School Language Arts Teacher beginning in August 2026. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK-12, college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Teach four sections of Middle School Language Arts
- Grade student work and write reports as required in a timely manner
- Serve as a Middle School advisor
- Participate in all school, division, and departmental meetings as well as field trips, special activities, and rotational duties
- Participating in professional development opportunities
- Nurturing a supportive, enthusiastic and inspiring atmosphere for students
- Communicating regularly with parents/guardians, administration, and colleagues
Desired qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
- At least three years of experience teaching at the Middle School level, plus a strong grasp of the unique needs of learners in the Middle School
- Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
- Comfort with emergent technology, a 1:1 laptop program and online course management system
- A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- An ability and willingness to support the extracurricular life of the school
- Genuine excitement for and ability to work with Middle School students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Enthusiasm for the school’s various initiatives
- A collaborative disposition; the inclination to partner with other teachers and the Middle School Language Arts Department Chair
