Summary: We are currently looking for several individuals with excellent customer service skills to be available to ride Buses along the NYSDOT Kingston–Oneonta–New York City region. This role involves riding scheduled bus routes and engaging with passengers, and accurately recording boarding and alighting activity throughout the market research project period for the month of January.

Fielding Period & Schedule

  • Dates: January 3–31
  • Workdays: Tuesday–Sunday (you can work up to 40 hours per week)
  • Shifts: Bus trips starting between the window of 8:00 AM–8:45 PM (shifts will be broken down)
  • Training: Mandatory online training (date/time TBD)


Work Locations (Multiple Sites)

Surveyors will be assigned to one or more of the following locations:

  • New York Port Authority Bus Terminal – 625 8th Ave, New York, NY 10018
  • Oneonta – 47 Market St, Oneonta, NY 13820
  • Oneonta (SUNY) – 108 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820
  • Kingston – 400 Washington Ave, Kingston, NY 12401
  • Phoenicia – 52 Main St, Phoenicia, NY 12464


Key Responsibilities

  • Arrive 30 minutes before scheduled bus departures to collect materials
  • Conduct onboard passenger surveys and ridership counts
  • Accurately record all passenger boarding and alighting activity
  • Use the Connecteam mobile app for scheduling, check-in/out, and GPS tracking
  • Communicate real-time field issues to supervisors
  • Maintain professional conduct and wear required ID/vests
  • Work independently or in pairs, depending on assignment
  • Manage one-way travel logistics and submit daily documentation
  • Follow all safety protocols and attend mandatory training sessions


Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented and reliable in fast-paced transit environments
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and working on moving buses
  • Able to stand for extended periods
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient using smartphones/tablets and installing mobile apps
  • Familiar with navigation tools such as Google Maps
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
  • Punctual, professional, and proactive with passengers


Requirements

  • Fully charged smartphone for each shift
  • Willingness to travel between assigned locations
  • Availability during the full January fielding period
