Position: Commercial Maintenance Mechanic
Location: Garden City, NY
Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm
Compensation: Up to $34/hour
Position Summary
Top construction company based in Garden City, NY is looking for a dependable and experienced Commercial Maintenance Mechanic to support the ongoing upkeep and functionality of our commercial properties. This hands-on role involves routine maintenance, basic repairs, and coordination with contractors to ensure building systems are operating efficiently. The position reports directly to the Vice President of Commercial Property Management.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform basic electrical work, including replacing outlets, switches, ballasts, and light bulbs; work with contractors as necessary.
- Handle minor plumbing tasks, such as unclogging drains and replacing fixtures; assist or coordinate with licensed plumbers.
- Conduct routine HVAC maintenance and light repairs; assist HVAC contractors as needed.
- Perform general maintenance tasks, including cleaning and painting mechanical rooms, and organizing maintenance tools and supplies.
- Respond to tenant service requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Support the implementation of preventive maintenance schedules, building energy systems, and property management technology.
Requirements
Physical Demands
- Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments, in all weather conditions.
- Able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including lifting up to 100 lbs. and frequently lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Capable of extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and other physical activities.
- Must be available for overtime when required.
Tools & Equipment
- Proficient with standard hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction (e.g., saws, drills, trimmers, floor machines, chain saws, etc.).
Appearance & Professionalism
- Maintains a clean, professional appearance with a uniform shirt, pressed pants, and appropriate footwear.
- Facial hair must be clean-shaven or neatly trimmed daily.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in commercial property maintenance or facilities operations.
- Working knowledge of building electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
