Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Medical Coder to join our Medical Records team. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4, and federal billing guidelines, with hands-on experience in acute care settings. This role requires attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes to ensure accurate coding and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform accurate medical coding for acute care, outpatient, and emergency department (ED) services.
· Ensure compliance with ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and federal billing guidelines.
· Review and interpret clinical documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.
· Utilize 3M/HDS coding applications and EPIC systems to process and validate records.
· Conduct research on coding-related issues and stay updated with the latest coding regulations and payor requirements.
· Provide support and training to coding staff when needed.
· Collaborate with clinical and billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies.
Required Skills & Experience:
· Minimum 3 years of medical coding experience in an acute care setting.
· Proficient in ICD-10 coding and knowledgeable in ICD-9-CM and CPT-4.
· Hands-on experience with EPIC and 3M/HDS coding applications is required.
· Strong understanding of coding guidelines, payor requirements, and federal billing standards.
· Excellent computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Education & Certifications:
· High School Diploma/GED required.
· AHIMA, RHIA or RHIT and/or CCP, CCS - required
