Center for Recovery and Wellness is part of Educational Alliance (EA), which brings together diverse communities in Lower Manhattan, offering individuals and families high-quality, multigenerational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities. One of New York City’s original settlement houses, EA was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. Today, EA partners with diverse communities throughout Lower Manhattan. The Role: Provide education, risk reduction, counseling, and referral services regarding HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, and other health conditions related to SUD, as well as wellness education services to residential clients. Engage the community in an array of prevention and wellness services within the Center for Recovery and Wellness.

  • Residential clients of CRW
  • Outpatient clients of CRW
  • Community/resident associations, resident/tenant councils, community centers, and other community-based organizations that unite and serve community residents


Responsibilities:

Program Support

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and provide direct educational services for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, and STDs including seminars, workshops, and presentations.
  • Provide direct pre-and post-test counseling for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis and STDs.
  • Together with LPN/RN plan, coordinate and provide direct educational services in the area of health effects of smoking and smoking secession.
  • Provide psychoeducation about health issues.
  • Gather information and analyze data to evaluate and adjust delivered material.
  • Select various educational and informational materials.
  • Travel to multiple sites to provide services to students, teachers, and community members and partners.
  • Provide prevention and wellness information at community health fairs and booths.
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of individual/group sessions, group workshops/presentations, sign-in sheets, and participant pre/post evaluations.
  • Provide direct evidence-based prevention education (Active Parenting Training) to parents, caretakers, and significant others.


Other Responsibilities

  • Provide health education to community members and participants at EA community centers.
  • Conduct outreach to EA Community Centers and the Lower East Side community to provide health education/ tobacco awareness groups.
  • Be an active member of our Village without Borders Coalition.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.


Administrative Support

  • Assist the program Director in gathering information required for grant proposals, renewals, narratives, and reports.
  • Provide administrative assistance, including answering phones, scanning, filing, faxing, and copying for the direct supervisor
  • Build working productive interdepartmental relationships across the Agency and in the community to ensure successful planning and execution of required duties.
  • Provide support services to the Restart Academy School and Youth Clubhouse.


Other

  • Understand professional and reporting requirements.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/HSE or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Experience in dealing with culturally diverse groups is strongly preferred
  • Ability to maintain high ethical standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, strong attention to details
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Strong information technology skills and well-versed in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work a flexible working schedule as needed
