Position Title: Job Coach Summer Intern, Community Health Worker Training Project

Reports To: Lead, Workforce Development

Location/Office: NYC

Time Commitment: June through August 2025, up to 40 hours per week

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

CAI, a national nonprofit organization that provides training, technical assistance, and other support to health care and social services agencies, is seeking a Job Coach Summer Intern to support the Community Health Worker Training and Apprenticeship Project. Under the direction of the Lead, Workforce Development, this individual will support the delivery of job-readiness Coaching to support trainees in CAI’s Community Health Worker Training Certificate Project (CHWTP) as well as Coaching to partner agencies to prepare and support them for successful adoption of new trainees and apprentices from the Project.

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly relationship-focused candidate with experience or interest in workforce development and providing counseling/coaching services to a complex client portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience in utilizing motivational interviewing skills, a passion for CAI’s mission, and be a team player and a problem-solver. The Job Coach Summer Intern will help provide job readiness and wrap-around support to assist CHWTP trainees with successfully completing the program and entering the workforce. The Job Coach Summer Intern will work with trainees to ensure they are receiving the support they need to successfully complete the training certificate program and with agencies that are receiving the trainees to ensure that placement is successful. The Job Coach Summer Intern will work closely with CAI project staff and partner agencies to support trainee recruitment, ongoing supportive coaching, and placement. This is a highly relationship-focused and detail-oriented position that will be key in the retention of CHWs in the project.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to):

  • Build relationships with cadres of trainees as well as the agencies they are placed in.
  • Assist trainees with completing program and placement agency enrollment/onboarding paperwork.
  • Work closely with supervisors and staff at the placement agencies to make sure the trainees are completing onsite training and skills building and to address the needs of trainees as they emerge.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and job-readiness coaching to CHW trainees through in-person and virtual meetings to ensure they are meeting the requirements of the training certificate and placement project.
  • Support trainees in identifying and addressing any challenges or barriers (such as childcare needs, medical appointments, mental and/or physical health conditions, an unstable housing situation, or medical or family emergencies) that may be negatively impact their abilities to successfully attend and complete the program.
  • Communicate regularly with trainees and placement agencies to ensure all parties are informed about the progress of the trainees and any issues that need to be addressed.
  • Collaborate with other members of the training and placement team to develop and implement strategies for improving the project and increasing the retention of CHWs.
  • Work closely with project staff to ensure that the support provided to CHWs is tracked and documented, and budgets are maintained.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and coaching support, including activities such as working together to develop resumes and LinkedIn accounts, setting and monitoring job-seeking goals, and connecting trainees with organizations within the project and partner networks.
  • Provide support for trainees not immediately employed to seek job opportunities and set goals for applying to positions of interest.
  • Work closely with project staff to support program recruitment, application, and admissions processes.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • MSW candidate highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve.
  • Excellent planning skills, extremely organized, and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated skills in project coordination.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint/Outlook preferred
  • Flexibility of schedule and ability to travel within NYC.
