Position: Color Assist, Lead
Location: New York, NY (On-Site)
*Pay Range: $29.00 - $35.00 USD hourly
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Color Assistant, Lead is responsible for supporting the colorists and the Long Form team across all phases of the color grading process, from ingest to final delivery. This role requires a strong understanding of evolving technical workflows, and a commitment to maintaining proficiency in current and emerging tools and applications. The Color Assistant, Lead serves as both a hands-on support resource and a solutions-oriented partner to the colorist team. Additionally, they will collaborate closely with the Production Operations Manager to create and implement a clear and structured training plan for Color Assistants, ensuring alignment with standard Company 3 (CO3) workflows and providing the necessary support and resources for success.
MAIN DUTIES:
The Color Assist will collaborate with the VP of Production Operations and Production Operations Manager to develop and maintain a training plan that ensures current and future support staff adhere to Company 3 (CO3) standard workflows across all geographic sites and business units. They will confirm that current staff are following global CO3 workflows and train new team members to ensure consistency and compliance with established standards. They will support and drive client-supervised color grading sessions as directed by Colorists and/or Production Management. Other duties include:
- Perform color-trace project updates across all relevant versions to maintain continuity and accuracy.
- Ensure all required color elements, such as drop-ins, mattes, and conform references, are tracked, delivered, and accounted for.
- Prepare and set up color suites according to project requirements prior to session start.
- Maintain regular communication with Production and Operations teams regarding any outstanding footage or materials needed to complete a project.
- Uphold high standards for deliverables produced within the short-form finishing process.
- Accurately log and update all assigned tasks daily in the designated task management software.
- Create new workflow documentation and maintain existing centralized documentation to reflect current practices.
- Stay current on emerging software, color grading techniques, and industry technologies; evaluate and report on relevant tools and advancements.
- Participate in the evaluation of test shoots and collaborate with Directors of Photography (DOPs) and other departments as needed.
- Assist in planning final color grading sessions, considering time and budget constraints.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have a strong aptitude for problem-solving, multi-tasking, and managing competing priorities. They will have familiarity with common file and tape-based video formats, excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all stakeholders, and be highly organized and detail-oriented. - Proficiency with industry-standard color grading software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, or equivalent tools).
- Solid understanding of video codecs, color science fundamentals, and file management workflows.

The benefits for eligible part-time employees working 25 or more hours per week and full-time employees in the US include a comprehensive package of health, retirement, and insurance benefits and paid time off.
