Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Maintenance Manager located in Long Island City, NY . The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all maintenance activities, including equipment maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs. The role involves supervising the maintenance team, managing maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and optimizing the performance of all equipment and facilities. The Maintenance Manager will also develop maintenance plans, manage budgets, and handle any emergency maintenance issues that arise.
Maintenance Manager for a 300 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant. This is a leadership role overseeing maintenance operations, union labor, and planning activities. The ideal candidate will have experience with Siemens Gas Turbines (V84.2 model) and steam turbines, along with strong leadership skills in a unionized environment. This is a full-time, on-site role.
Schedule: 5 days/week, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM (management position, no overtime; previous manager started as early as 5:00 AM)
Top Priorities (Non-Negotiables):
- Strong background in power generation maintenance
- Experience with Combined Cycle facilities (Siemens Gas Turbines preferred — V84.2 model)
- Proven leadership experience managing union employees
Plant Equipment Details:
- Gas Turbines: Siemens V84.2 models, 120 MW each
- Steam Turbines: 40 MW each, two units
- Configuration: 2 gas turbines + 1 steam turbine combined cycle system
Leadership & Team Structure:
- 17 total reports (3 direct + 15 indirect)
- Direct Reports:
- Maintenance Supervisor
- Maintenance Planner (Mukhtar would report into this role)
- Warehouse Operator
The Maintenance Manager will work closely with supervisors and planners while also engaging directly with union labor.
Qualifications:
- Degree: Preferred but not required (engineering or related discipline)
- Experience:
- Combined cycle power plant operations and Siemens turbine systems
- Leadership in a unionized environment (Local union experience strongly preferred)
- Background as a Maintenance Supervisor, Planner, or Lead Technician with proven ability to step into management
- Skills:
- Strong technical understanding of power plant maintenance
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to mentor and develop staff with future plant manager potential
