Extrusion Manager - Packaging - Base Salary to 130k/year - Rochester, NY
- Over 120 years in business, and our family-owned client is still growing. They are a leader in the flexible packaging industry and serve a wide range of clients specializing in flexographic, rotogravure, digital printing, multi-ply extrusion, and lamination of film, paper, and foil – as well as pouch and bag fabrication to meet the needs of their clients. They have state of the art equipment in their 6 facilities throughout the Midwest and Northeast.
- The Extrusion Manager will manage the employees and equipment in the Extrusion Department to maintain continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Waste and Productivity in the department. The Extrusion Manager will also provide back up support as needed to the Plant Manager in the case of Vacations, Absences, or when additional plant wide resources are needed. The Extrusion Manager will directly supervise Manufacturing Supervisors, and Process Engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate safety incidents, quality defects (internal and customer), and productivity losses. Identify true root causes (People, Materials, Machine, Methods) and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Communicate performance, priorities, and department objectives through one-on-one conversations, small-group discussions, and full department meetings to strengthen teamwork and alignment.
- Review upcoming production schedules and advise on optimal order sequencing through the extruders to maximize setups, throughput, and overall efficiency.
- Evaluate employee performance, crew alignment, and skill levels. Provide coaching and training, recognize high performers, and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
- Identify maintenance needs and coordinate with production scheduling and maintenance teams to ensure timely and effective repairs.
- Partner with engineering to determine short- and long-term capital improvements. Prepare justification documents for capital funding requests.
- Monitor all purchased supplies, assess usage, and seek cost-effective or higher-value alternatives.
- Lead and support daily operational activities, short-term improvement teams, and long-term committees to drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all departmental processes.
Qualifications:
- GED or High School Diploma
- 3+ years of Extrusion Department Leadership experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
