Part-Time Nanny (Friday to Sunday or Saturday and Sunday only) required for a Dumbo, NY family with 2 young sons. Specific duties to be negotiated with the family, but in general, you will be responsible for providing nurturing and loving care to the boys, while supporting the family with additional tasks including tidying/cleaning/organizing, laundry/ironing, meal preparation and household inventory/shopping in a busy household. You will work in partnership with the parents and they are looking for someone who is an easy communicator and open to pitching in and generally being a proactive and helpful extra set of hands. Someone organized who thrives in a busy environment will be a strong match for this family. The parents practice gentle/positive parenting and want someone who will fit naturally into that approach.
Beyond childcare, the parents are looking for someone who loves to cook healthy meals (mostly vegetarian) and overall can help keep the home running smoothly. The family does have an outdoor garden, so someone who enjoys planting and harvesting would be ideal!
Location: Dumbo, NY (strong preference for local candidates in Brooklyn due to later end times)
Start date: Summer/early Fall 2025 (family is flexible for the perfect fit)
Days/times: Family open to guaranteeing up to 24 hrs a week across Friday, Saturday and Sunday (open to less hours (16 hrs guaranteed) for a Saturday and Sunday only commitment). General hours to land between 9am-7pm. Ability to flex to 35 hrs as needed for busier weekends, weekend date nights, infrequent travel, etc. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply!
Children: Two sons (born 2019 + 2024). The family does have a full time Nanny currently during the week.
Conditions: $30 - $35 per hour* sick/personal/vacation days + unlimited metro card (or equivalent) *dependent on experience and other considerations. The family is open to discussions surrounding the final compensation package for their preferred candidate.
Childcare
- Plan age-appropriate play, learning, outings, and play-dates.
- Manage naps/bedtime, diapering/potty, and school readiness.
- Prep wholesome, gluten-free meals/snacks; keep kids' areas tidy.
Household & Organization
- Daily reset of kitchen, play areas, and common spaces.
- Vacuuming, dusting, and general tidying between professional deep-clean visits.
- Laundry for the entire household; rotate linens.
- Ongoing projects-closet editing, pantry labeling, toy rotation, paperwork filing.
- Light garden help (planting, harvest & water veggie planters).
- Set-up/cleaning when we entertain guests.
Cooking & Errands
- Cook or batch-prep vegetarian dinners (meat optional for older child & dad).
- Grocery shopping, farmers-market runs, pantry restocking.
For further consideration, applicants must possess the following:
- 3 + years professional nanny or family-assistant experience with infants, toddlers and elementary aged children
- Strong spoken/written English
- A well-suited demeanor and experience working with infants and with toddlers
- Exceptional childcare references that attest to strong communication skills, reliability, punctuality, maturity and high emotional intelligence
- Proven tenure with with multiple children households
- Ability to complete all child related duties during the workday with additional household tasks
- Interest and experience in providing healthy, home cooked meals and snacks for the kids (focusing on vegetarian meals with meat options for Dad + older son)
Preferred, not required:
- Early-childhood or Montessori/ECE coursework.
- Indian vegetarian cooking or gluten-free baking expertise.
- Professional organizing background (NAPO, KonMari)
- Passport ready for occasional weekend travel
