The Fresh Air Fund’s Development Intern provides administrative and operational support to the department while gaining excellent exposure to all aspects of non-profit fundraising.
Position Summary
The Development Intern will support all areas of fundraising, including corporate relations and volunteering, development operations, special events, annual giving, and major gifts. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about all facets of fundraising for non-profit organizations.
The role is a hybrid position of no more than 35 hours per week, with the intern working in-person at the NYC office, The Fund’s camp property in Fishkill, NY, or at Riverbank State Park (Upper Manhattan), as well as some remote work. Typical hours will be 9am-5pm, with the occasional early morning start time.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Donor Relations team in donor outreach including creating acknowledgment letters and answering donor inquiries via phone, mail or email.
- Participate with Development members in supporting camp at Riverbank State Park (Manhattan) or Wendell Foster Recreation Center (Bronx) on days children are departing to or returning from sleepaway programs.
- Support the Corporate Engagement Program in helping with volunteer groups visiting Fresh Air Fund camps (transportation to camp will be covered/reimbursed in accordance with The Fresh Air Fund’s Travel and Reimbursement Policy)
- Assist the Development Operations team in database management and database hygiene support of the Salesforce and EveryAction databases.
- Support Special Events team, including helping with donor and logistics follow up after May 2025 event and participating in activities in preparation for Fall Benefit 2025.
- Assist in planning and execution for Development-related events happening at camp, including organizing pre-event materials like name tags or creating gift bags, and supporting the Events Team during day of event (schedule permitting)
- Other special projects as needed including research on donors or prospective donors.
Required Skills:
- Must be at least 18+ years of age. At least one year of college preferred.
- Enthusiasm for the mission of serving children in New York City’s underserved communities.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to represent The Fund well.
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing priorities based on departmental needs.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint); comfort with learning new systems and technologies; experience with development research databases a plus.
Employment Period: June 2nd through August 15th – dates are flexible
Hours per Week: not more than 35 hours per week
Compensation: $16.50 per hour
