MAIN FUNCTION:

The Staff Nurse is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. Reports to the Heart & Vascular Clinical Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with scrubbing, circulation and recording in the Cath Lab per Cath Lab policies and physicians specific procedures.
  • Maintains an adequate stock and proper inventory of drugs and narcotics.
  • Is responsible for on-call coverage with response time not to exceed 30 minutes.
  • Is skilled in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolutions of staffing conflicts; rotates through non-invasive Cardiology Lab, as needed.
  • Heart Institute Ambulatory Care Unit (HIACU) rotation involving prep and recovery of Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Interventional Radiology patients required.

EDUCATION:

Registered Nurse; current NYS licensure. ACLS preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one year critical care experience.

CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Cardiac experience required. Previous Critical Care/ICU experience desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Required to be on feet much of time. Appreciable physical effort including lifting, reaching, stooping, moving patients and pushing of beds and stretchers.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
