We are seeking a versatile and skilled handyman to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our facilities while working closely with and supporting the Facilities Manager. This role performs a wide range of maintenance and repair functions utilizing expertise in plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical work, and door lock installation. The position conducts routine inspections to ensure all areas meet safety standards and proactively identifies and addresses issues related to refrigeration and preventive maintenance. Through hands-on problem-solving and technical support, this role helps maintain facility functionality and minimize operational disruptions.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as painting, plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry.
- Assist the facilities manager with daily maintenance and operational tasks.
- Conduct inspections and identify potential maintenance issues.
- Repair and replace broken or damaged fixtures, appliances, and structures.
- Fix leaks, unclog drains, and repair or replace faulty plumbing fixtures.
- Install new plumbing systems and fixtures as needed.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical outlets, switches, and light fixtures.
- Perform minor electrical installations and upgrades.
- Build, repair, and install wooden structures such as doors, shelves, and furniture.
- Perform framing, drywall installation, and finishing work.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by scraping, sanding, and priming.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair refrigeration equipment, freezers, dishwashers, and commercial kitchen appliances in support of facility operations and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of general maintenance/handyman experience.
- Proven experience as a handyman or in a similar role.
- Strong technical skills and knowledge in various trades, including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting.
- Ability to use hand and power tools effectively and safely.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Vocational training or certification in a relevant field is preferred.
- Working knowledge gained through formal training or hands-on experience in plumbing, painting, electrical work, and carpentry.
- OSHA 10/30 or comparable safety training is preferred.
- Must be able to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Location: Bronx, NY
Schedule: Full Time, On-Site
Rate: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour, based on experience
