Job Title: Paralegal – Queens Surrogate’s Court (Estate Litigation / Compel Accounting)
Location: Queens, NY (Hybrid or In-Person preferred)
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced paralegal with hands-on knowledge of Queens County Surrogate’s Court procedures to assist in estate litigation matters, specifically a Petition to Compel Accounting under SCPA §§2205–2206 and related filings. The role involves preparing, filing, and serving court documents, tracking case progress through NYSCEF, and ensuring compliance with procedural rules and service requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Draft and file Petitions to Compel Accounting, SCPA 2102(4) applications, constructive trust pleadings, Orders to Show Cause, and Lis Pendens related to estate property.
Prepare and file Notices of Appearance, Affidavits of Service, and Affidavits in Support.
Coordinate service of process on executors, attorneys, heirs, and interested parties.
Communicate professionally with the court clerk’s office, process servers, and opposing counsel.
Manage exhibits, correspondence, and evidence related to estate property and financial accounting.
Assist with e-filing through NYSCEF and maintaining compliance with local Surrogate’s Court rules.
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in estate or probate litigation, ideally within Queens Surrogate’s Court.
Strong understanding of SCPA Articles 21 and 22, fiduciary obligations, and accounting petitions.
Proficient in NYSCEF e-filing, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF editing tools.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to draft precise, court-ready documents.
Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with property filings (Lis Pendens, constructive trusts, deed research) is a major plus.
Compensation
Hourly or project-based; commensurate with experience and speed/accuracy of filings.
