Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the inspection, maintenance, testing, and construction of all third rail, high tension, and Electric Light & Power (EL&P) assets and facilities.
  • Design review and oversee installation of traction power systems for NYCT rail operations, including substations, power distribution, and third rail systems.
  • Conduct site investigations and field inspections to evaluate existing traction power infrastructure conditions and recommend upgrades.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams including civil, structural, and signal engineers during review, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, and test reports from contractors and vendors.
  • Support construction management teams in the field during installations and testing/commissioning of power equipment.
  • Maintain documentation for regulatory compliance, project tracking, and closeout packages.
  • Provide engineering support for capital projects, emergency repairs, and system expansions.
  • Interface with internal departments and external agencies to coordinate utility connections and project impacts.
  • Attend project meetings, site walks, and milestone inspections, and prepare engineering reports and presentations.
  • Ensure adherence to NYCT codes, local building and electrical codes, and federal transportation safety regulations.
  • Ability to travel regionally to various project locations as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience for mid-level, and 10+ years for senior-level candidates (NYCT/MTA or similar agency projects strongly preferred).
  • MTA Track Safety Training Certificate is a must.
  • Required Certifications: OSHA 30. PMG123 is preferrable but not required.
  • Experience with NYCT (MTA, AMTRAK, LIRR etc.) or similar agencies.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and influence diverse project teams.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with strong reporting capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
