Location: Coney Island, NY – Rail Maintenance Facility
Duration: 6 Months Temp-to-Hire
Salary: $28–$38/hour (commensurate with experience)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3rd Shift)Position Summary:
We are seeking a Field Technician to join our team at the Coney Island Rail Maintenance Facility. In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of electrical and mechanical tasks related to rail car testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications.Responsibilities:
• Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications on rail cars at the Coney Island facility and remote commissioning sites.
• Utilize hand tools (wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers) and test equipment (multi-meters, PC-based tools) for electrical and mechanical tasks.
• Read and interpret piping diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and electrical schematics.
• Conduct a variety of system tests, including:
HVAC, Brake, and Propulsion Systems
Communications, Toilet, Trainline, and Sign Systems
Automatic Train Control Systems
Functional, Hipotential, Continuity, Pneumatic Leakage, Dynamic, Burn-in Tests
• Support engineering teams in specialized testing activities.
• Document all work performed, including test reports and discrepancy entries.
• Operate independently and lead tasks, mentoring junior technicians when necessary.
• Communicate directly with customers and internal teams, providing updates and requesting assistance as needed.Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or associate degree preferred.
• Prior experience in electrical or mechanical testing environments.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding schematics, diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Skilled with hand and power tools; familiar with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
• Comfortable using MS Office and industry-specific software.
• Ability to troubleshoot systems using schematics, manuals, and test data.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to generate detailed technical reports.
• Willingness to travel for field assignments as needed.
• Capable of working flexible hours and lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working in active rail yards, indoors and outdoors, under strict safety protocols.Work Environment:
