Role and Responsibilities:


The Fleet Service Mechanic performs journeyman-level work in repairing, trouble shooting and maintaining a wide variety of diesel, and electric powered equipment. The Technician must know a wide range of mechanical procedures to include electrical, fuel systems, brakes, suspensions, preventative maintenance, welding, and any other related work.


  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.
  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering and hydraulics.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
  • Provides emergency roadside services, minor repairs, and assists in vehicle recovery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.





Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successfully pass drug screening.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years journey-level mechanic experience.
  • Must be able to provide your own hand tools in both standard and metric and up to a minimum of ½ inch drive.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, as required.


Preferred Skills:

  • D.O.T. Class A CDL preferred.
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.)
  • Must be able to work independently.
