Agency Overview:
Commonpoint is a multifaceted community center dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the quality of individual, family, and communal life throughout New York City, offering services to people of all ages, ability levels, stages of life, and backgrounds. They strive to meet the evolving needs of their community of over 100,000 members, ranging from providing in-school and after-school programs, professional and career development, assistance with food insecurity, legal services, financial counseling, mental health services, senior classes, dementia care programs, and tax preparation assistance, to name a few. Commonpoint has grown tremendously in the last five years and now has a mission-driven staff of 3,000 and over 80 sites in the five boroughs.
Department Overview: Commonpoint (Samuel Field YM & YWHA) Adult Workforce Department consists of employment and support programs serving individuals predominantly adults 18 and over and opportunity youth ages 16-24. The department provides access to occupational training, education, resources, and support programs for individuals who are motivated to enter the workforce.
Program Overview: The goal of the Opportunity Youth Programs at Commonpoint is to provide a career pathway for opportunity youth through a continuum of services including COMPTIA A+/Google IT Support certificate, medical training, work readiness training, college and career exploration, paid work experience, advanced occupational training and industry credential attainment. The programs support opportunity youth at any educational level, providing on-ramps at various levels through three program components, each supported by case management and wrap-around services.
IT Instructor for COMPTIA A+
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● At least 1 year of teaching experience
● At least 1 year of IT Work experience
● Experience with curriculum, syllabus development and lesson planning a plus
● Experience with methods and strategies to explain and clarify complex topics to students with diverse experiences and educational backgrounds.
● Ability to connect real-life work scenarios to the teaching environment
● Ability to help students apply professional skills to their delivery and participation in the classroom
● Experience with student assessment; and talent to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the
curriculum Ability to analyze and synthesize technical information
● Exceptional capacity to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to continuous changes in curriculum to stay current in the industry
Preferred Experience:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience)
● 3 years + IT work experience Preferred.
● Experience teaching technical courses
● Experience teaching remotely
● Experience in workforce development
Technical Qualifications Required:
● Current A+ certification (Current Edition 1001-1002 Series)
● Google IT Support Professional Certificate
● Network+ Certification (Current edition N10-007)
● Experience implementing network technologies in business environments with a focus on the
deployment of TCP/IP suite protocols
● Advanced knowledge of Windows, Apple, and Linux Operating Systems; this includes both
end-user and server versions
● Thorough understanding of security concepts, models, and standards; experience with
implementation in business environments
● Qualified candidates must be able to comfortably and frequently lift 50lbs

Location: Must travel to various locations Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
Schedule: Mon-Fri. Regular Shifts 8am-4pm, or 9am-5pm and with flexibility for occasional weekends/evenings (in-person assignment)
Salary: $55,000K
