BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we feed, shelter, teach, and support our neighbors to build a stronger community. The ESOL Program offers English language instruction to adult non-native speakers, enhancing their communication skills for personal, academic, and professional growth. With a variety of ESL courses, activities, strategies, and events, the program helps learners overcome linguistic barriers and achieve their academic, economic, and personal goals. This empowers them to give back to their community and contribute meaningfully to society.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate adult program participants in learning English to Speakers of other Languages.
  • Provide instructions to improve participants’ English language communication skills.
  • Help participants to develop oral and written language skills in contextualized areas of interest,
  • Plan daily lessons and use a variety of tools to help students become proficient English speakers.
  • Instructors are collectively required to engage in at least 6 hours per week of lesson planning or preparation of classes.
  • Take student attendance daily.
  • Test our ESOL students.
  • Complete progress notes monthly.
  • Help with registration.
  • Organize student files.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in adult education learning practices and standards.
  • At least 2 years of successful experience within the 5 last year in providing adult literacy services to low-income adults.
  • Experience educating groups at multiple class levels, and experience with testing.
  • Engaging personality and detailed orientated skills are essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
  • Ability to travel for at least 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of.
  • weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work
