Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 school in Syracuse, NY is seeking a skilled Teacher of the Visually Impaired for a contract position covering the full school year. This role offers an engaging opportunity to support students with visual impairments, helping them achieve educational success through tailored instruction and specialized strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students
- Provide direct instruction using braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility training
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure inclusive learning environments
- Assess student progress and adjust teaching methods to meet evolving needs
- Participate in team meetings and professional development activities related to visual impairment education
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
- Knowledge of braille literacy, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility techniques
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to student success and individualized instruction
