- The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevents illness and injury, and alleviates suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human response and advocacy in care of individuals and families.
- Responsible and accountable for compliance to all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services policies, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
- Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
- Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment.
- Educates patient and family in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
- Utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to UHS Hospitals policy.
- Shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services.
- Complies with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
- Participates in and supports the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting the Unit Council, participating in improvement initiatives, and contributing to peer review practices.
- Engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completes all mandatory education requirements.
- Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
- Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Performs duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
- Participates in the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develops.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Job Requirements
- Six (6) months to three (3) years of Nursing (RN) experience.
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
- BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).

- Additional Details
- Preferred clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
- Preferred education: Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing.
- Preferred certifications: CCRN, relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by home unit assigned.
