PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Responsible for the overall planning, development and implementation of educational/recreational activities which support the educational and developmental needs of the children attending the afterschool program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement outside/indoor developmentally age-appropriate program activities, which are consistent with the program’s philosophy.
  • Collaborates with Recreation Assistant/Associate, volunteer groups and outside organizations to organize and implement special events for the children and families.
  • Plan and organizes field trips. Escorts and provides supervision of children on field trips.
  • Plans and organizes parent activities which facilitates parent engagement in program activities.
  • Collaborates with Case Management staff in orienting new families to services provided by the Recreation Program for children and families. Enrolls new children in program.
  • Provides training and supervision to the Recreation Assistant/Associate(s).
  • Maintains accurate records (attendance, physicals, registration, profiles, etc.) and completes reports which support department activities and attendance.
  • Develops and post monthly calendar of activities for the department.
  • Monitors program activities to ensure the safety of the children.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and ensure supplies are replenished as needed.
  • Ensures classrooms are maintained cleaned and well organized. Monitors and ensures all damaged and broken equipment, toys, etc. are removed from the classrooms.
  • Seek appropriate donations for the residents.
  • Participates in staff meetings, trainings, case conferences, etc.
  • Utilizing the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) - Client Assistance and Re-housing Enterprise System (CARES) complete incident reports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with working with school-age children providing recreational/educational activities. One (1) supervisory experience.
  • High School Graduate required, and current active college attendance required.
  • Food Protection Certification and CPR/First Aide Certification required.
