Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Research Scientist in computational Neuroscience with experience developing multiscale biophysical models of cortical neuronal networks using NEURON and Python, to work on several grant-funded projects to develop models of cortical systems based on experimental data, and to develop neurobiologically-inspired learning algorithms.

JOB DUTIES:

Applicant will develop multiscale biophysical models of thalamocortical systems, optimized using electrophysiology data obtained from experiments. Applicant will assist in analysis of electrophysiology data and development of novel signal processing methods to analyze/process the data. Applicant will develop models of entorhinal/hippocampal circuits and interface them with agents solving spatial navigation tasks, trained through neurobiological learning algorithms. Applicant will prepare papers, posters, and progress reports for the grant, and in applying for new grants.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

- PhD and experience in computational neuroscience or related discipline.
- Several publications on neuroscience or related field in peer-reviewed journals.
Desired skills:
- Experience with the NEURON simulator using Python interpreter.
- Experience running large-scale simulations.
- Experience developing neural models, machine learning models, and analysis of neural data.
- Experience analyzing neural data and matching models to experimental data through parameter search and optimization.
- Experience using NetPyNE or similar tools, for rapid, flexible construction, and analysis of detailed neural models.
- Experience using supercomputers and commercial cloud platforms (e.g. Google Cloud).
- Experience running batch simulations to explore/optimize parameters via grid search or evolutionary algorithms.
- Experience writing and submitting grants (to DoD/NIH and/or other organizations).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with biophysical modeling of neuronal networks using Python/NetPyNE/NEURON software, analyzing electrophysiology data, developing machine learning models for quantification and classification of electrophysiology data.
